Chinese Zoo Gives Lonely Panda an HDTV

The Yunnan Wild Animal Park in China gave a panda an HDTV to watch after she become depressed and lonely. Zookeepers at the park say Sijia became depressed and was not eating properly after her companion was moved to another zoo. ITN reports that the flat screen television plays video footage of Meixi, Sijia's former companion. Meixi and Sijia had been together for six months. Shanghaiist reports that play facilities, including a swing, were also installed for Siija. ITN says the swing and bars were installed first but didn't cheer her up, so the TV was brought in.

Sky News quotes zoo staff member Bai Tuo as saying, "Today Sijia is in a much better state than before. When she comes out she naturally climbs on the swing and just starts swinging, and proactively climbs up on the bars."
