DARPA Unveils Menacing Six-Foot-Two, 330 Pound Atlas Robot

DARPA has unveiled Atlas, a six-foot-two, 320 pound robot that it says is "one of the most advanced humanoid robots ever built." It was built by Boston Dynamics. The robot is a successor to PETMAN. The robot features 28 hydraulically actuated joints. It also has a Carnegie Robotics sensor head with LIDAR and stereo sensors and two sets of hands, one provided by iRobot and one by Sandia National Labs.
This released DARPA video shows Atlas remaining upright despite a 20 pound weight being swung at it. It can also avoid obstacles while walking. Atlas also shows off its arms and hands. Atlas can rotate its hands and raise its arms above its heads. Take a look:
