How to Survive an Encounter With a Goliath Tarantula

This National Geographic video explains how to survive a video with a venomous Goliath tarantula or Goliath birdeater (Theraphosa blondi). This tarantula is the most massive spider in the world and has a leg span of up to one foot long. The spider's venom is reportedly mild (comparable to a wasp sting). However, the Goliath tarantula can also release urticating hairs that can irritate human skin and mucous membranes. The video shows the large tarantula killing a snake and mouse. National Geographic says to do nothing at all if one of these tarantulas happens to land on you. Take a look:
