Romibo Robot Project Introduces Cuddly Flashlight Following Social Robot

Posted on April 26, 2013

The Romibo Robot Project, developed by Origami Robotics, has released a video of its Romibo social robot. Romibo has a flat frame so it can wear different colored skins, such as the red skin above. Origami Robotics says its robot was designed for "social therapy, companionship and fun."

The DIY Romibo project is open source. The files and instructions for building a Romibo were initially available from the Romibo website, which is no longer available now (updated). In addition to following flashlights, Romibo's features also include touch sensing, light sensing, accelerometers, wifi and an IR range finder. A smartphone can also be used for its eyes. It can also be controlled with an iPad. Take a look:
