Self-Burying Robot Can Bury Itself in Sand, Flour, Rice and Sugar

This Self-Burying Robot was created by researchers from the Carnegie Mellon University Robotics Institute. It can bury itself in sand, flour, rice and sugar.

The bimodal robot is capable of traveling above-ground in one mode and burying itself in the other mode. In its current state of development the robot does not appear able to bury itself in soil. The robot was presented at ICRA 2013 in Germany. Take a look:
