The Symbiotic Machine is a Robot Powered by Algae

The Symbiotic Machine is a robot powered by algae. The transparent robot prototype was developed by Ivan Henriques and researchers from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. The researchers say their bio-solar machine detects, collects, carries and processes algae autonomously from the water it is placed in. The robot has conical shaped tentacle arms that contain algae detecting sensors. The researchers say the Symbiotic Machine has a complete digestive system, including a mouth, stomach and anus. The video below shows the robot's digestive system. It was made with a motor, an endless worm and a pepper grinder sealed inside a transparent cylinder. You can read an interview the developers here.
