Widespread Tornado Watches Out for Tropical Storm Lee

Posted on September 4, 2011

Tropical Storm Lee has weakened but remains a tropical storm with winds of 40 mph. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) forecasts Lee to move off to the east, northeast and then north over the next dive days. This will take Lee from Louisiana to Mississippi and then across much of Alabama and then into Tennessee by Thursday.

The tropical storm has resulted in tornado watches for most of the northern Gulf of Mexico coast. The tornado watches (which include two different watches) run from eastern Louisiana to 25 miles southeast of Apalachicola, Florida. There were 11 tornado reports yesterday and there have already been eight tornado reports today. You can find the latest tornado reports here.
