Boston Dynamics Teaches BigDog Robot to Hurl Cinder Blocks

Boston Dynamics continues to develop its BigDog robots for the Army Research Laboratory's RCTA program.

The 240 pound BigDog robot has been taught how to hurl cinder blocks. Boston Dynamics says the goal of this is "to use the strength of the legs and torso to help power motions of the arm." BigDog grabs the cinder blocks in its mouth and throws them a considerable distance. Now BigDog can move objects that are blocking its path out of the way. You just don't want to be anywhere near BigDog when it is clearing a path. BigDog is also agile enough to walk over the cinder blocks. Take a look:
