James Cameron Releases First Footage From Bottom of Mariana Trench

James Cameron has released his first footage from the bottom of the Mariana Trench. The footage is very clear for being nearly 7 miles below the ocean's surface. Cameron did not see much life at the bottom. He says he felt completely isolated down there. He said it is a "completely alien world." The New York Times reports that Cameron saw only amphipods, tiny shrimplike creatures. The sub did experience problems, such as the robot arm failing to operate properly. Cameron hopes this will be the first of many dives. He says the Challenger Deep is a "vast frontier" - about fifty times the size of the Grand Canyon. Take a look:
