NASA's GROVER to Explore Greenland Ice Sheet

NASA is sending its Goddard Remotely Operated Vehicle for Exploration and Research (GROVER) to Greenland to study snow and ice accumulation. The rover is six feet tall and weighs 800 pounds.

This autonomous, solar-powered robot is equipped with ground-penetrating radar. GROVER sends radio wave pulses into the ice sheet, and the waves bounce off buried features. Researchers can learn about the characteristics of the snow and ice layers by studying the data. Take a look:
