South Korean Scientists Develop Jellyfish Shredding Robot

Scientists in South Korea have developed a jellyfish shredding robot called JEROS. JEROS stands for Jellyfish Elimination Robotic Swarm. Jellyfish swarms can cause problems. Myung Hyun, an associate robotics professor at KAIST, first starting working on the jellyfish destroying bot three years ago. Jellyfish swarms have plagued the fishing industry in Asia. They can also cause other problems. Just this week jellyfish were blamed for shutting down a nuclear power plant in Sweden.
Discovery reports that the JEROS can destroy 2,000 pounds of jellyfish in an hour. The JEROS robots move around on the surface of the water using its propulsion motors. The robots have nets that guide the jellyfish into the robot where they are eliminated by a special jellyfish shredding propeller. Take a look:
