Tour the Amazon With Google Street View

Google was invited to the Amazon Basin in August, 2011 to collect ground-level images of the rivers, forest and communities in the Rio Negro Reserve. Google Maps with Street View now allows you to remotely visit parts of the Amazon Basin including the Rio Negro tributary and the surrounding communities. This project was made possible in partnership with the Amazonas Sustainable Foundation (FAS), a local nonprofit conservation organization. Here is a video of Karin Tuxen-Bettman, project lead for Google Street View in the Amazon, explaining the project. The Google Street View Trike was put on top of a boat to record some of the footage.
