Section of China's Yangtze River Turns Red

Part of China's Yangtze river has turned red. The Telegraph has some photographs of the dramatic color change here. NDTV reports that Chongqing's Environmental Protect Bureau is blaming sand for the color change in the river. They claim flooding upstream washed sand downstream which turned the river red. Take a look:

Livescience.com reports that the reddish colored water is most concentrated around Chongqing, an industrial center in Southwest China. Pollution is the leading theory for the color change.
