Scientists Working on a Robot Ostrich That Might Run as Fast as 50 Mph

Plastic Pals reports that an ostrich robot is in the works. Dr. Russ Tedrake (MIT) and Dr. Jerry Pratt (IHMC) are working on the ostrich robot, named FastRunner. The scientists think the robot will be able to achieve running speeds in excess of 20 mph - possibly as high as 50 mph. They also say it will be robust enough to run over moderately rough terrain. FastRunner will be 140cm (4'7") and weigh 66 pounds. Take a look:
