New Blue Marble Image of Earth Looks Down on Arctic

Posted on June 21, 2012

Ocean scientist Norman Kuring of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center compiled this new view of the Earth using natural-color images from the Visible/Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) on the recently launched Suomi-NPP satellite.

The view of Europe, Asia, North Africa, and the entire Arctic was compiled from 15 satellite passes made by Suomi-NPP on May 26, 2012. Kuring stitched the image swaths together and set up this view looking down from 70 degrees North, 60 degrees East. You can see a larger version of the image here.
