11-Year-Old Russian Boy Discovers Woolly Mammoth Carcass

The Moscow Times reports that Yevgeny Salinder, an 11-year-old boy, discovered a very well preserved mammoth carcass. The boy discovered the 1/2-ton carcass Taymyr, near the Sopkarga polar station. The mammoth is estimated to have been about 15 years old when it died around 30,000 years ago. The Moscow Times says the mammoth has been informally named Zhenya, which is the nickname of the boy that found it. Take a look:
