Carnegie Mellon Researchers Create Scrabble Playing Robot

Carnegie Mellon University researchers have built a robot that plays Scrabble. The robot, named Victor, sometimes insults its human opponents. The Wall Street Journal reports that the robot was created by students under the supervision of robotics professor Reid Simmons.

The armless robot is better at trash talking than playing. It was developed to study human-robot interactions and not to be an invincible Scrabble player. Dorcas Alexander, a tournament scrabble player, did not have any trouble trouncing Victor. Professor Simmons says Victor is a terrible loser. The Carnegie Mellon robotics team worked with the drama department to give him different moods. Take a look:
