Disco Clam Creates Strobe-Light Effect

New Scientist reports that Lindsey Dougherty and fellow researchers from University of California, Berkeley have discovered the disco clam (Ctenoides ales) furls and unfurls its reflective lip even when there is no light. The clams create a unique light show when they unfurl their reflective lip. The researchers are studying the clam to see if its light show may help lure prey or repel predators. Take a look:
