EMILY is a Remote Controlled Rescue Device for Lifeguards

EMILY, a robotic lifeguard, has been seeing increase usage since we first heard of her in 2010. The robotic lifeguard from Hydronalix can travel 20 mph and can navigate rough surf. The devices help give struggling swimmers a flotation device to rest on until a human lifeguard arrives. The devices cost $10,000 each. They run for about 15 minutes before needing a recharge.
