Japanese Researchers Create Face and Torso for Child Robot Named Affetto

Affetto is a child robot being developed by researchers at Osaka University's Asada Lab. The researchers say they want to learn more about higher cognitive functions in humans through the development of a child android. The researchers have now developed a torso and head for Affetto. Affetto has 22 pneumatic actuators in its body that help it make realistic movements - 3 in the neck, 7 in each arm, 1 in its chest and 4 in its waist. Affetto's face is covered with a soft urethane elastomer gel. The second clip a closeup showing how Affetto's face moves. Take a look:


There are reportedly plans in the works to give Afetto some legs.
