Video: Lord Howe Island Stick Insect Hatching

The Lord Howe Island Stick Insect, also known as a Tree Lobster, was thought to be extinct before it was rediscovered over 1,800 feet up on Ball's Pyramid, an island near Lord Howe. NPR has a story of the rediscovery and photographs of the large black insects here.

Scientists at the Melbourne Zoo are now trying to repopulate the species of large stick insects that was once thought lost the world forever. The eggs incubate for over 6 months. Watch as a large bright green stick insect emerges from an odd looking brown egg. Take a look:
