MIT Researchers Develop Wearable Sensor System That Automatically Maps Buildings

MIT researchers have developed a wearable sensor system that creates a digital map of a building in real time as the wearer moves through it.

The sensor system can be worn like a backwards backpack. The system includes a laser rangefinder, accelerometers, gyroscopes, camera and barometer. The researchers envision the system as being very useful in emergency rescue situations. Here is a video that shows how the system works. Take a look:
