Oregon Zoo Polar Bear Wears Special Collar as Part of USGS Research Project

Tasul, a polar bear at the Oregon Zoo, is wearing a special collar as part of a USGS research project. Tasul is testing the collar which will one day be worn by polar bears in the wild. The collar records data to help biologists better understand polar bear behavior. Tasul's collar contains an accelerometer and a GoPro Hero3 camera. The cameras used on polar bears in the wild will have a release mechanism, so it can remotely be triggered to fall off the bear after scientists have collected their data. Take a look:
