Qbo Robot Learns to Recognize Itself in the Mirror

Posted on December 1, 2011

This video shows a cute little robot, named Qbo, learning to recognize itself in the mirror. Qbo was programmed with speech and object recognition. Qbo can be taught to learn new objects. Qbo moves in front of a mirror and is told that the object in the mirror is itself. Qbo then trains itself to recognize itself. When Qbo is asked again who the object in the mirror is, Qbo responds, "Oh. This is me. Nice."

Popsci says researchers are working on technology that will enable to robot to recognize another Qbo and not think the other Qbo is itself.
