Rare Sumatran Tiger Cubs Caught on Camera

Posted on May 9, 2011

WWF camera traps captured 12 Sumatran tigers in two months in the central Sumatran landscape of Bukit Tigapuluh. The photographed tigers include two mothers with cubs and three young tiger siblings.

The WWF says it is estimated that only 400 Sumatran tigers are left in the wild. The WWF says Bukit Tigapuluh was identified as a global priority Tiger Conservation Landscape by leading scientists. It is one of six landscapes the government of Indonesia pledged to protect at the November 2010 tiger summit, but much of the area still faces the threat of being cleared by the pulp and paper inudstry.
