Researchers Build Quadrotor With Talons

Posted on March 23, 2013

New Scientist reports that scientists working at the General Robotics, Automation, Sensing and Perception (GRASP) Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania have developed a quadrotor with talons that can grab an object during flight. The developers were inspired by footage of eagle snatching a fish out of the water while flying. Take a look:

A copy of the research paper, "Avian-inspired grasping for quadrotor micro uavs," can be found here (PDF file). The paper was submitted at the ASME International Design Engineering Technical Conference.
