Smart Trash Can Moves Autonomously to Catch Your Trash

Engineer Minoru Kurata created the Smart Trash Can, which can move autonomously to catch your trash. Diginfo TV reports that the trash can won an Excellence Award at the Japan Media Arts Festival. A sensor in the trash can detects the position of the trash being tossed at. The sensor communicates with a PC which relays back to the trash can where the piece of trash is going to land so the trash bin can find it. Kurata also shared a video of his trash can on YouTube when he was developing it back in July 2012.

Kurata says he has received inquiries about producing the trash can commercially. He says he is working on patenting the technology. He is also working on improving the catch success rate of the trash can. Take a look:
