Spectacular Solar Eruption Produces M1.7 Class Flare

The Sun unleashed a M1.7 class flare associated with a prominence eruption on Monday, April, 16, 2012. The above image was taken by the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) in 304 wavelength. The spectacular explosion occurred on the Sun's Northeastern limb - it was not directed at Earth. Be sure to click here to see the awesome full-sized image. Take a look:
