A strange looking tentacled marine creature lived 520 million years ago. The creature had a goblet-shaped body on a stalk that was anchored on the seafloor or a hard object.

Science Now reports that the fossils of Cotyledion tylodes were found in southern China. A research report on the creature was published here in Scientific Reports.

Live Science reports that scientists found many of the C. tylodes were found. BBC News reports that the creatures may have belonged to the entoprocts group, which feed by straining food particles out of the water.
