10 Years of Weather History in 3 Minutes

NOAA's GOES-12 satellite was decommissioned on August 16th, 2013. It was in service for over 10 years staring in April 2003. GOES-12 served as GOES East from April 2003 until May 2010. It captured events like Hurricane Katrina (around the 45 second mark). It was moved to provide coverage of the Southern Hemisphere as GOES South after suffering thruster control issues in 2010. This animation shows one image from each day of the satellite's life. Take a look:
