Belviq Weight Loss Drug Arrives in Pharmacies After Receiving FDA Approval Last Year

A weight loss drug named Belviq (lorcaserin) is arriving on the market after being approved by the FDA last year. It is the first new weight loss drug on the market in over ten years.

The drug reportedly produces only minor results. The L.A. Times reports that a study found people lost an average of 3% to 3.7% of their total body weight during a year on average. A list of possible side effects can be found on drugs.com. Some of the side effects can be neurological because the drug stimulates serotonin receptors in the brain to make you feel fuller.
