Microscope Image of Carnivorous Plant Wins 2013 Olympus BioScapes Competition

A microscope image of a carnivorous plant has won the Olympus BioScapes Competition. The photo above of a floating humped bladderwort plant (Utricularia gibba) was taken by Igor Siwanowicz, a researcher from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.

Some of the other top ten finalists included the cool looking black mastiff bat embryo photo by Dorit Hoffman, University of Oxford, UK, which took second place and the photo of two-hour-old boxbugs (each 3mm long) by Kurt Wirz, Basel, Switzerland.
