Video: Tornado Rips Roof Off Shopping Mall in Auckland, New Zealand

A tornado damaged a shopping mall in Auckland, New Zealand. Tornadoes are not uncommon in New Zealand, but they tend to be much weaker than some of the powerful spring tornadoes in the United States. New Zealand's Civil Defence Emergency Management says Auckland averages 1-2 tornadoes and waterspouts each year.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the tornado had winds of 200km/h (about 125 mph). The tornado ripped the roof off the Albany Megacentre shopping mall. Stuff.co.nz has photographs here that shows cars flipped upside down. Here is some footage of the tornado. Take a looK:
