Pelamis Wave Power Sea Snake Wins Saltire Prize

The Saltire Prize is a 10 million pound (about $15.85 million U.S.) award given to the team that best demonstrates commercially viable wave or tidal stream energy in Scottish water. The BBC News reports that this year's Saltire Prize has been awarded to Dr. Richard Yemm, founder of Pelamis Wave Power and inventor of a large red sea snake wave energy device.

The Pelamis is named after Pelamis platurus, a species of sea snake. It is brightly colored so it will be easily visible in the water. The Pelamis uses wave power to generate electricity. Here are a couple videos of the Pelamis wave power machine in action:
