Google Launches Site That Tracks Deforestation in Near Real-Time

Google has announced a new website that monitors deforestation in near real-time. The site, Global Forest Watch, using satellite imagery to detect changes in forest cover.

The online forest monitoring system was created by the World Resources Institute, Google and over 40 more partners. Google says the Earth lost over 500 million acres of forest between 2000 and 2012. World Resources Institute says companies can use Global Forest Watch to check on suppliers and make sure forest they committed to protect are not being cut down. Take a look:
