Jar Found on Remote Island May Have Contained Amelia Earhart's Anti-Freckle Cream

Discovery News reports that a small cosmetic jar found on a remote island in the Pacific could be a clue that Amelia Earhart lived on the island as a castaway. The jar was found by The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery (TIGHAR), a group dedicated to finding out what happened to the female aviator who disappeared on a flight on July 2, 1937.
The jar (pictured here) is similar to the shape of a jar of Dr. C. H Berry's Freckle Ointment, a product used to remove or fade freckles in the 1930s. Amelia Earhart is known to have disliked her freckles. The product was reportedly 11% mercury, so the dangerous product would not even be allowed on store shelves today. If the reconstructed jar belonged to Amelia, then she would have crashed or made an emergency landing on or near the island with her navigator Fred Noonan. Other women's objects from the 1930s have also been found on the island.
ABC News says researchers plan to return to the site next month in the hopes of recovering Amelia's actual aircraft. Take a look:
