Meshworm: Autonomous Robot Moves Like Earthworm

Researchers at at MIT, Harvard University and Seoul National University have created a soft autonomous robot that moves like an earthworm. The robot, named Meshworm, moves via peristalsis, crawling across surfaces by contracting segments of its body. Meshworm is made from wire made of nickel and titanium. If the resilient Meshworm is bludgeoned with a sledgehammer, or stepped on, it will not be stopped. Meshworm will continue to inch forward unharmed. Take a look:
