Mosquito Tornadoes Spotted in Western India

Several mosquito tornadoes were recently observed over the Mutha river near the city of Pune, Maharashtra in Western India. The viral video shows multiple long tornado-like plumes of mosquitoes.

A similar event was observed several years ago in Russia. Entomologist Lyudmila Lobkova told the Siberian Times that the phenomenon has to do with mating. Lobkova says, "These are male mosquitoes swarming around one of several females in order to mate, there is nothing wrong about this phenomenon."
