Scientists Develop Robotic Octopus Tentacle, Part of Larger Plan to Develop Complete Octobot

Scientists have developed a robotic version of an octopus tentacle. The goal is to create a complete underwater octobot. Discovery News reports that the robotic tentacle is part of a larger project funded by the European Commission to create a functional full-body octopus robot.

The octobot could help with underwater exploration and and perhaps underwater rescues. The robotic tentacle could even be used for surgical procedures. The video below shows the robotic tentacle successfully grabbing a plastic bottle dropped into a tank. Take a look:
