Video: Assassin Bugs vs Vampire Bats

Posted on July 29, 2011

An Assassin Bug takes on a vampire bat in this National Geographic video. The creatures start hunting for blood in the nymph phase shortly after being born. The nymph gets bigger and bigger as it quietly sucks the blood from a sleeping vampire bat. The adult assassin bugs are braver and go after an awake baby vampire bat despite the risks.

There are many varieties of assassin bugs. Wired reports on one unique type of assassin bug kills spiders by pretending to be prey on spider webs.
