Hydrometeorological Prediction Center's 5-Day QPF Shows Copious Rainfall Amounts From Frankenstorm Sandy

The Hydrometeorological Prediction Center has released an updated 5-day Quantitative Precipitation Forecast (QPF) that shows the huge area in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast that will get heavy rain from the hybrid Sandy hurricane. As you can see a huge area is expected to get five or more inches of rain.
Many areas may get 10 or more inches of rain with locally higher amounts. Inland flooding will obviously be a serious problem. You can find a larger version of the above forecast map here and you can find the latest QPF forecasts from the HPC here.
Copious rainfall will be just one of the impacts from Frankenstorm Sandy. As we mentioned earlier, other impacts will include very strong winds, surge and even snow in some areas. The surge is the most dangerous and destructive threat. Coastal areas to the north of where Sandy makes landfall could see a huge surge topped by very large waves. There will likely be evacuations to avoid loss of life in surge zones anticipated to be impacted by Sandy.
