New Zealand's Famous Shrek the Sheep Dies

Posted on June 7, 2011

New Zealand's famous sheep, Shrek, has died at age 16. For those unfamiliar with the story, Shrek was a Merino sheep who became famous in New Zealand for avoiding being sheared for six years. There are some large photos of Shrek in his huge unshaven coat here

Shrek avoided being sheared by hiding in caves on New Zealand's South Island. Shrek was described as looking like a "biblical creature." Shrek was sheared on national television. His gigantic coat provided enough wool for twenty men's suits.
