Rare Daylight Fireball Observed Over North Carolina

A rare daylight fireball was observed and recorded over North Carolina yesterday. The event took place around 6:03 pm EDT.

The American Meteor Society (AMS) reports that it has received over 250 reports about the fireball. Most of the witnesses were from North Carolina but it was also spotted by residents in Virginia and South Carolina. The AMS says that to be seen in daylight the "meteor must be brighter than about magnitude -6 to be noticed in a portion of the sky away from the sun, and must be even brighter when it occurs closer to the sun."
