Ringbot is a Monocycle Robot with Legs

Posted on February 10, 2024

Ringbot is a monocycle robot with two legs. The robot was created by KIMLAB at the University of Illinois.

The video below shows the robot using its two small legs to turn. It also shows the legs (or driving modules) being used to provide stability. The legs can also be used by the robot to upright itself.

KIMLAB says, "Ringbot aims to provide versatile mobility by replacing the driver and driving components of a conventional monocycle vehicle with legs mounted on compact driving modules inside the wheel."

The video from KIMLAB also shows Ringbot traveling over some small obstacles.

A research paper on Ringbot was published on IEEE Xplore.
