Video: Rosetta Flyby of Asteroid 21 Lutetia
Posted on April 28, 2012
ESA's Rosetta orbiter approached and passed the asteroid 21 Lutetia, a 100-kilometer wide asteroid, in 2010. Rosetta took numerous photographs of the asteroid during its flyby.
These images were compiled by Daniel Machacek into this cool video that gives you an idea of what it would be like to approach an asteroid in a spaceship.
NASA's APOD says Rosetta is headed next for Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. Rosetta carries a 100-kilogram box-shaped lander that will attempt to land on the comet in 2014.
