Video: Pufferfish Inflates to Escape Otter
Posted on June 8, 2012
An otter captures a pufferfish in this National Geographic video. The pufferfish then uses the inflatable technique it was named after to inflate in to a fish balloon that befuddles the otter.
The otter finally gives up on the pufferfish, which deflates and swims away. Had the otter succeeded in eating the pufferfish, it probably would been a fatal mistake. National Geographic says most pufferfish contain the deadly poison tetrodotoxin, which is up to 1,200 times more poisonous than cyanide.
